The institute is a growing community of leadership practitioners and faculty who are passionate about what Norwich can do for you. We thrive on meeting challenges and achieving success with character, integrity, and distinction.
The LCI's purpose is to accelerate leadership learning throughout your career, unbound by the classroom.
Our mission is to embrace a community of emerging leaders to develop and enhance values-based leadership principles necessary for organizations to confront the global challenges for today and for the future.
Igniting bold thoughts and inspiring courageous actions through character, integrity, and distinction.
It is our belief that leadership isn’t a position, but a values-based way of life. This type of leadership is focused on leveraging human capacity to achieve strategic results.
What does this look like in the workplace?
In organizations, capacity is the fully integrated offerings of body, mind and spirit in the execution of everyday work and challenging endeavors. Strategic results are clear and focused goals that support a shared vision to achieve a greater good. Together, they are the ultimate force multiplier for any organization in any industry in any part of the world. Leadership, however, takes each of us – individually and collectively – to a new place with each effort, which involves change. Getting anything done that is different, better, cheaper, faster, flexible, adaptive, innovative or entrepreneurial translates into change. This is each leader’s challenge. Effective leadership means leading change, not just managing it.
What is the foundation of leadership and change?
People. While management is about processes, leadership is about the people who design and execute these processes. And what do people most often fear? Change. This fear of change makes leading hard. But you aren’t alone. The LCI offers an ever-expanding collective of critical thinkers and leading minds from all walks of life that thrive on living our Norwich values and bringing our values-based leadership to you.
Leadership & Change Institute's Leadership Summit 2016
The founding of Norwich University by Captain Alden Partridge was to serve this great nation and educate students who will become leaders in business, government, and the military in order to advance the causes of the Republic, ensure its continued freedom, and develop the economic, political, and social infrastructure of this new century (The Legacy of Norwich, 2014). His legacy of growing and developing leaders emphasizes leadership as a values-based way of life.
The Leadership & Change Institute (LCI) at Norwich University was founded by Dr. Stacie L. L. Morgan in response to the overwhelming call to bring the Norwich University leadership values and approach to our changing world through the continuous engagement of our alumni population. The LCI was designed to support to individuals and organizations beyond just our alumni, as we are all wrestling with the leadership challenges of our time. The institute exists to develop leadership learning that is relevant to today’s tough leadership challenges. The LCI develops student, alumni, individual and organizational leadership capacity by providing innovative avenues for Norwich values-based leadership learning. Norwich has a legacy of values-based education that grows leaders in every discipline we teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Leadership & Change Institute at Norwich University now extends that leadership learning beyond its degree programs, through professional development for individuals and organizational development for employee cohorts. As we approach our bicentennial in 2019, it is the perfect time to highlight what Norwich University can do for the world…by bringing our results to you, your organization, and the Republic of the World.
The Leadership & Change Institute concept was based upon the success of the multidisciplinary think-tank approach that is the foundation of our graduate leadership programs. Our focus is on meeting the world’s need for leaders capable of addressing organizations’ toughest leadership challenges with character, integrity, and distinction…as only Norwich University can.
